CMT Driving Insights

The CMT Driving Insights dashboard is a feature that uses data from your phone to help you track your on-trip driving behaviors. CMT uses this data to generate a score that gives you an idea of how safely you’re driving. The dashboard also provides tips from CMT on how to avoid unsafe driving habits.

The dashboard includes a breakdown of which behaviors are helping or hurting your CMT Driving Insights score. You can find specific behaviors triggered during each trip in the Scored Trip section.

The dashboard also gives you an overview of driving-related rider feedback received over the past 60 days. This feedback can be helpful, but it doesn’t impact your insights score in any way.

What is CMT (Cambridge Mobile Telematics)?

Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) is the world’s largest telematics service provider. Its mission is to make the world’s roads and drivers safer. CMT analyzes your trip data and calculates your insights score as a data processor for Uber. They also provide tips and information to help avoid unsafe driving behaviors.

You can learn more about CMT on their website.

How does CMT get their data?

CMT uses sensor data from your mobile device to track 5 driving behaviors:

  • Harsh braking: This behavior is triggered when your vehicle slows down suddenly.
  • Phone handling: This behavior is triggered when your device is rotated while your vehicle is moving.
  • Harsh turning: This behavior is triggered when your vehicle makes a sharp and sudden change in direction.
  • Harsh accelerating: This behavior is triggered when your vehicle speeds up rapidly over a short distance.
  • Speeding: This behavior is triggered when your vehicle is moving faster than other vehicles typically move at your current location.

CMT tracks these behaviors whenever you’re on a trip, from the time you pick up a rider until you drop them off.

How is my CMT Driving Insights score calculated?

Your score is based on data from your last 50 trips that ended on or after June 27, 2024. This includes completed trips and canceled trips. Shared rides are excluded, as well as food, package, and rental vehicle deliveries.

Each of the 5 driving behaviors is weighted differently in your overall score calculation.

Your CMT Driving Insights score gives you an idea of how safely you’re driving. The score is calculated out of 100 points and can’t be manually adjusted. In the dashboard, scores fall into 1 of 4 ranges:

  • Scores up to 75 are reflected as “Needs work” and will be shown in dark yellow
  • Scores from 76-85 are reflected as “Okay” and will be shown in dark yellow
  • Scores from 86-95 are reflected as “Good” and will be shown in green
  • Scores from 96-100 are reflected as “Excellent” and will be shown in green

How can I improve my CMT Driving Insights score?

Here are some tips for how to improve your score depending on which of your driving behaviors is hurting your score:

  • Harsh braking: increase the distance between you and the car in front of you. This gives you more time to react and brake gradually when the car in front slows down or stops.
  • Phone handling: use a phone mount to reduce phone handling, even if you’re using Apple Carplay or Android Auto. When your phone is mounted, one-click actions like engaging with offers will not affect your phone handling score.
  • Harsh turning: keep a steady speed before and during turns. If you or your passengers are leaning during turns, then you should slow down.
  • Harsh accelerating: accelerate smoothly by gradually increasing your speed and refrain from rapid acceleration from passing other vehicles.
  • Speeding: pay attention to posted speed limits and travel with the speed of traffic.
